A tarp that fits is a tarp that lasts. Get the measurements right and your cover sits tight, sheds water, and holds up for years. Get them wrong and it flaps, pools water, and pulls at its grommets until it gives out. Here is exactly what we need to build a cover that fits your trailer the first time.
What You’ll Need
A tape measure, a helper to hold the other end, and about ten minutes. Write every number down in inches, and double-check anything that looks off before you send it to us. When in doubt, measure twice.
The Measurements That Matter
- Length — front to back of the area you want covered.
- Width over the top — from where the cover attaches on one side, up and across the top, and down to where it attaches on the other side.
- Drop — how far down the sides you want the cover to hang.
- Obstructions — note anything the cover has to work around, like fenders, toolboxes, gates, or bows, and where they fall.
Measure Over the Top, Not Flat
The most common mistake is measuring the flat footprint of the trailer as if the cover were a rug. Run the tape up one side, across the top, and down the other so the cover has enough material to actually reach where it needs to fasten. A cover cut to the flat width will always come up short.
